Creative Passions April 2026 Newsletter

April Newsletter

Laura's Corner

Hello Creative Passions Friends!

We have some great news!  By June 1st, we will be opening a 2nd quilt shop, located a block west from our current shop, on the opposite side of the road.  We know you will have lots of questions for us, and we are still in the process of deciding what fabrics, notions and other things will be there.  If you have suggestions (we know you do!), feel free to respond to this newsletter with (reasonable) ideas.  For sure, this area will have a small classroom so we can teach the next generation to sew and quilt.

None of our expansions would be possible without the support of you, our guests, over the past nearly 21 years.  Remember back when we had one retreat for 16 people and I was 99% sure we would never have a quilt shop? Ha ha.  I am so funny.  Thank you for all your support!!

So thankful for you!

Laura G

Barb's Garden

Longer hours of daylight. More clear skies. My favorite time of year! Nothing showy in my yard but here is a spring favorite, The Crocus. It's amazing how they deplete over the years where as the daffodils thrive and multiply!

Diane's Book Nook

The book I chose this month is “James” by Percival Everett. It was a book group selection for April and I was intrigued when I heard it was the story of Huckleberry Finn and the slave Jim, but told from Jim’s point of view.

I have fond memories of reading Mark Twain’s “Huckleberry Finn” as a youngster, but this re-telling from James, the slave known as Jim, is convicting as it records a dark time in our history.

Everett clearly portrayed the language Jim and the other slaves would ‘code-switch’ by saying incorrect grammar to the white slave owners, but in fact, they are articulate, and some can read and write. But since they knew if white owners sensed their intelligence, they would fear their power.

I enjoyed this book even with the dark moments. I think I need to read those and remember that not all freedoms come easily.

Rebecca's Wonderings

Lydia's Recomendations

Movie: Ready or Not 2 Here I Come - A follow up to the 2019 horror comedy Ready or Not. This sequel is every bit as good as the first movie.

Video Game: Pokemon Pokopia - This cozy game is the perfect combination of Animal Crossing and Minecraft. Befriend pokemon, build them homes, and make the land of Kanto beautiful in whatever ways you see fit. This relaxing game is sure to offer hundreds of hours of fun.

Podcast: Dungeons and Daddies Season 4 Grandpas and Galaxies - 4 granddads must make a voyage to the stars to rescue their lost grandchildren. A return to the format of season 1, season 4 has started off very strong. I'm excited to see where it goes next.

Sew What's Cooking? With Jenn

I made these to add some variety to a cookie plate and they became an instant fan favorite. The crust is like a shortbread and the topping is nutty, ooey, gooey goodness. Feel free to make the nut choices your own. I've used macadamia and walnuts; added more of one kind than the other depending upon what I had on hand, and it always turns out great. As long as the total amount of nuts equals 4 cups, pick your favorites!
