Laura's Corner
Hey Fabric Friends! I hope you are enjoying the sunshine and warm weather, it took a long time to get here this year! You may know that I love winter and dislike the heat of summer, but it makes me happy to see people out enjoying the heat. We are working diligently on our teaching classes for the rest of the year. In August we have Mandy Manno teaching Laura Heine, Fiberworks Collage projects, and Andrew Lee, The Combat Quilter, teaching quilted jackets, flip top notions holder and large quilt tote. In September we have Kent’s Sit & Sew, which will include an exclusive Cake Roll® and pattern, and Nancy Kloster, teaching Quiltworx paper piecing. Typically, when you stay for a teaching retreat, all your meals are provided for you through local restaurants. Class retreat costs cover your retreat with early arrival, teacher fees, a trunk show or presentation of teacher’s creations and full meals. Go to our website to find out more about each of these classes. If you have suggestions on teachers or classes you and your friends would like to see us offer, please send an email to us, and we will see if they work in our schedule.

Diane's Book Nook
This month I discovered a captivating book based on a true story, Isola by Allegra Goodman. Marguerite, as heir to a fortune, seems destined to a life of gentility. As life in the 16th century would require, Marguerite is orphaned and given to her ruthless uncle to manage.
He spends all her inheritance and gambles even more on a venture to the uncharted island of Canada, bringing Marguerite along. Of course, there is a love interest, a faithful but elderly nurse, all of whom cannot do anything but anger the uncle.
This book gives new insights into what might seem to be an ideal situation but which turns out to be exceedingly difficult. If you like historical fiction, you might want to check out this book.
