Laura's Corner

Hello Creative Passions Friends!

It’s August 1st, the first day after the two-month All-Michigan Shop Hop.  It has been a whirlwind of a summer for our Quilt Shop, as it has been for all quilt shops in the state of Michigan.  Luckily, we have enough team members to (mostly) keep up with the day-to-day Quilt Shop and Retreats business and don’t have a huge list of things to catch up.  We thank you for the retail support over the past two months and hope you all enjoyed it!

Retreaters—we often have space in buildings for smaller groups to share with another group.  When you share a building, you share the common areas, such as, work space, kitchen, dining room and in CP1, CP2 and CP3, bathrooms.  At our Retreat Center, since it was set up as a bed and breakfast before we purchased it, each room also has it’s own bathroom.  When there are multiple groups in a building, you DO NOT share a bedroom with someone in another group.  The only time this changes is if we have a national teacher come to teach and we need to fill rooms as best we can to cover their costs.  If you are looking for a date to reserve, call the office to see what is completely open or available to share.  Separate groups have made new friendships over the past (almost) two decades!

Enjoy the remainder of the summer, I will come out of hibernation once it cools off!

Hello Retreat Friends! Reservation packets for our December groups will be hitting your inboxes soon. These packets include all you need to know about deposits, due dates, massages and pedicures, and more. Please make sure to open and read them, as well as share the info with your group.

Hope you all are enjoying this last month of summer and soaking up all the sun you can! July just flew on by and I'm not sure I'm ready for it to end.

Selena's Scoop

I don't know about you, but I LOVE a good ice cream cake. And what's even better is to be able to make one at home exactly how I like it. This recipe is perfect for a summer party or just to enjoy on a hot summer day. Be as indulgent as you want! Your family will love you for it.

Ingredients:

  • Ice cream sandwiches, approx. 24 for a 9x13 pan
  • Chocolate syrup and caramel syrup
  • Cool whip
  • Toppings of choice, such as M&Ms, Milky Way bars, Snickers, etc. Cut up your candy bars into small pieces.

My favorite combination is caramel syrup with Milk Way bars.

Directions:

  1. Arrange 12 ice cream sandwiches along the bottom of your pan. You may have to cut one or two in half to fit them in.
  2. Top the first layer with cool whip then drizzle your choice of syrup on top, and sprinkle with the toppings of your choice.
  3. Repeat steps 1 and 2, then "frost" the top of the cake with the remaining Cool Whip.
