Laura's Corner
Hey Fabric and Retreat Friends!
Spring is finally here but Mother Nature hasn’t quite woken up yet. I keep trying to switch to shorts and skirts and laugh at the looks I get from people in pants and coats!
This past week, I was privileged to speak and do a trunk show for Loose Threads Quilt Guild Luncheon in Mayville. It was my first-ever trunk show and am happy it went well. If your guild is interested in a trunk show, let me know! There was also a vendor there for the luncheon, and depending on the date, we may be able to do both for you.
A day later, our Midland Quilter’s Squared Guild set up then hosted a 3-day Quilt Show at Midland Center for the Arts. Creative Passions Quilt Shop was the only vendor at this show, so I was able to meet many attendees. This guild has a show every year, so if you missed it, put it on your calendar for next year. If you are looking for a vendor at your Guild’s show, contact us and we will check dates.
Enjoy the spring daffodils, tulips and beautiful blooming trees, they won’t be here for long!

Hello friends! Did you know that we now have two lines to answer all of your incoming calls? A long, long time ago, when we just had one building, it was pretty each just to call us and make payments and reservations over the phone. Now we have 12 (Yes 12!) possible places for you to stay when you come to Creative Passions. Most days there are at least two of us in the office to answer emails and phone calls Monday to Friday form 9-4. And when the office is closed one of our Team Members is always on call to answer the phone for our guests staying here. So when you're with us and you are out of something, an item is broke, or you have an emergency, you can call the main number 989-845-2159 to reach us. Please leave us a message and we'll return your call promptly. And if you're calling during regular business hours and we miss you, chances are we are on another call and will call you back as soon as possible.
We may play phone tag from time to time, but I promise we are not ignoring you. We love speaking to our guests and will help you as soon as we can. Hope you have a wonderful day!

April showers bring….May showers. I can not wait for sunny, warm days that don’t tease like they did a few weeks ago. I’m ready for walks outside, fresh veggies from local farmer’s markets, reading pool side and bonfires. Summer for me means more grilling, lighter meals, less casseroles, less soups and trying to make healthier choices. I’m not a fan of cottage cheese at all as I have a huge issue with textures when it comes to food, however, I’ve recently discovered that if you puree cottage cheese or blend it until it’s smooth, when used in some recipes, it’s quite lovely. Cottage cheese is kind of a super food so I was really excited when I discovered the ability to make alfredo using it.
In a blender or food processor, blend all of the below items together with the exception of basil and oregano.
½ cup lowfat cottage cheese
1 cup milk
1 Tbs. Corn Starch
Minced garlic, we like garlic so this is to taste
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
Basil to taste
Oregano to taste
Once blended, add all ingredients plus basil and oregano to a saucepan and whisk while heating. Now, it’s delicious just like this but if you want a bit more cheese, you can add shredded parmesan to your pan for a bit more cheesy flavor. Enjoy a healthier version of Alfredo.
