November Newsletter

Hey Retreat Friends!

Cooler temperatures are finally here!  Whether you love pumpkin spice, colored leaves, football or pulling out the blue jeans and sweaters, your time is here!  I like cooler weather much better but don’t care for going and coming home from work in the dark.  Thank goodness I am only one mile from home! Daylight savings time is this weekend, don’t forget to turn your clocks back one hour and get all your chores done with that extra hour!

Dark nights bring up another subject: early arrival.  If you are coming for early arrival on Thursday or Sunday nights, the doors to your retreat open at exactly 8pm, no earlier.  We schedule luggage assistance for your group 8 to 9pm and those team members are instructed to NOT open the door until 8pm.  Feel free to arrive in Chesaning early, have dinner at one of our local restaurants and relax before your fun-filled weekend!

January, 2023, we will extend our Quilt Shop hours a bit later on Thursday nights to accommodate guests who would like to get to town before dark.  Also, Riverfront Grille will start some new food and drink specials for our Creative Passions guests!  Stay tuned…

Thankful for all of you,

Laura G

Hello friends! Just wanted to check in with a few updates for our retreat guests.

When you stay in Suite Q at the Retreat Center, you are assigned a bedroom for your stay. This bedroom may be UPSTAIRS or DOWNSTAIRS, based on need and availability. Is it not guaranteed to be downstairs. When you call to book your stay, please let us know if a downstairs room is needed and we will be happy to let you know if one is available. BONUS, we officially have Spectrum Cable TV in the Suite for your viewing pleasure.

Also, if you come in on Thursday night or Sunday night to take advantage of early arrival, our luggage team will be there to assist you from 8-9 pm. Our Luggage Team consists of both young men and women who are scheduled to assist you. We've had a few guests ask where the boys are when the young women show up to help, so I just want to reassure you that any of our team members are ready to help you. When you leave on Thursdays and Sundays, we do not schedule our luggage team to provide assistance when you depart. Our Cleaning Team starts at 2pm and can assist you with your luggage if needed at any of our locations.

And if you ever have any questions about your stay, please let us know. We are more than happy to help you.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving,
Tamara

I’ve never been a huge fan of a Fall color drive, however, a Fall hike in the woods, sign me up.  I love the smell of crunchy leaves and seeing them all over the ground.  Kudos to all of you leaf rakers, I prefer them just piled up all over.  Last week, I had the pleasure of getting in not one but two, 8 mile hikes which is one of my favorite ways to spend Fall.  Now the youngest is still at home and his favorite thing about Fall is my cooking and he’s been requesting apple pie.  A couple weeks ago, I made him a pie and then I made him another pie and now he wants yet another.  However, he’s going to have to settle for this delicious take on an apple pie.  Just four simple ingredients dumped in a cake pan and you’re good to go.

Ingredients:

Apple Pie Filling

Cinnamon

Yellow Cake Mix

Kraft Caramels-unwrapped and cut in half

One Stick Salted Butter

Spray a 9x13 pan with cooking spray.  Sprinkle your apple pie filling with cinnamon and spread in your 9x13 pan. Lay your caramels over you apples. Dump your unmixed cake mix over the caramels.  Slice your butter and lay over your cake mix spreading them over the entire pan.  Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until the top is golden brown.  Allow to cool for a few minutes if you can wait that long.  If your food can touch, which mine can not, feel free to serve with vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of caramel.  It’s Fall in your mouth.
