October Newsletter

Happy October!

Summer certainly slammed on its breaks and said, “I’m done!”  Pull out your sweaters and blue jeans and enjoy the color changes in the trees.  Hopefully the chaos of the start of the school year is over (if you have young ones) and your school-year routine is going well.

This is the busiest time of the year for our retreats with buildings full most weeks and weekends.  If any cancellations happen, we go to our waiting list and call there first, then post on Facebook, especially if there is a last-minute cancellation.  See below for availability.

Thank you for your patience with changes and updates that happen at our buildings.  Since 4 out of our 5 buildings are over 100 years old, problems happen, updates need to be made and when is a broken-down anything come at a convenient time?  Never, right?  Currently, contractors are tearing up behind the Quilt Shop to run a new sewer line.  To say we have not enjoyed using a Port-a-Jon for over 2 weeks already, is an understatement.  CP2s chairlift has given us 10+ years of continuous use, and although it still works most of the time, we have a new one on order.  Like most things nowadays, there is a delay in production, and we are hoping to get it installed by the end of the year.  We are hoping to have new siding and shingles on all 4 buildings installed during the week of Thanksgiving (assuming good weather), to fix all areas that were damaged in the hailstorm over a year ago.  Finding a time when there are no guests at each building has been a challenge.  No one wants to go on a retreat and hear pounding outside the entire time.

So again, your patience with any size repair is greatly appreciated!

Gratefully yours,

Laura G

I can't believe the end of the year is quickly approaching! We've already sent out reminders to our January groups, and February is up next. With that being said, I wanted to give you all a quick reminder that effective January 1, 2023, our rates will now be $165 each, with early arrival remaining at $30 each. Deposits of $85 each are due 90 days in advance and final payments of $80 each are due 30 days in advance. We kindly ask that you adhere to these dates so that we can schedule accordingly, and open up spots when you're not able to fill a larger building.

Hope you all enjoy this lovely fall weather!
Tamara

How is it possible that it's already October?  It's time for apple picking, corn mazes, sweatshirts and fun.  It's my favorite time of year for so many reasons, many of which I just mentioned but mostly because I can bring back hearty soups, casseroles in the oven and baking.  It might be my boys favorite time as well as I don't say no to turning on the oven for them.

My boys absolutely love a Philly Cheesesteak and well, what's not to love, however, that much bread isn't always necessary for this gal.  Here's a take on the classic Philly and the classic stuffed pepper that's sure to please.
Ingredients
2 TBS oil
4 Peppers, cut in half and deseeded
1 8oz Sirloin
1 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
1/2 red pepper sliced
Small red onion sliced
2 cups mozzarella cheese, grated
Salt and pepper to taste
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place your halved peppers in a baking dish, drizzle with 1 TBS of olive oil, salt and pepper to taste and cover with foil and bake for 10 minutes.
In a frying pan, add the remaining 1 tbs of oil and sear the steak on both sides, thinly slice cross grain or to cheat use pre-sliced already prepared sirloin.
In the same skillet, add the mushrooms and cook until they release their moisture.  Add the onions and pepper, salt and pepper and saute 2-3 minutes.
Remove peppers from oven and divide your meat and veggies evenly between the peppers, top with cheese and bake an additional 15 minutes or until cheese is melted. Enjoy!
