 "It takes a Village"  How many of you have heard that saying?  Well, in our little Village of Chesaning, this is absolutely true.  We witnessed this again this year as our community came together and in less than six months, provided a reading pillow and book for EVERY child in kindergarten through 4th grade--over 600 kids!  Local businesses and families fundraised and sponsored classes to cover the cost of the book and pillow insert, and local sewers/quilters and Creative Passions guests made the pillow covers.  This means each of these children went home for the summer with a new pillow and new book to read.  I could not be prouder of our part in this project.  Thank you to all who donated their time, talent and dollars to make this so successful that we already have enough money and pillow covers for the next THREE years of incoming kindergarteners. This year we are working on a new idea for middle school and high school, stay tuned!

Hello friends! I hope you are all enjoying your summer. I've been starting many days with an early walk to enjoy the peace and quiet and the lovely scenery Michigan provides.

Since we have moved our quilt shop, we have had many comments and suggestions regarding discounts for retreat guests or offering a rewards program. As you may know, 98% of our customers come from our retreats when they are here. If we offered a discount on every purchase, we would not be in business long. We provide the convenience of being close to our guests and offering a wide selection of fabrics to meet our guests needs.

We understand that other stores offer our retreat guests a discount and we appreciate them doing so. However, our retreat guests make up a small percentage of their customer base while we rely heavily on our retreat guests to shop with us as well. We support our fellow quilt shops and always let our guests know of the other shops in the surrounding area.

We are in the process of creating a rewards program and will share that once it is finalized. We are having a Christmas in July sale that covers many products. We are working on monthly sales on new products. And we have a clearance section. But most of all, we pride ourselves in providing excellent customer service. We want you to enjoy your stay in our retreats and visits to our store. We love chatting with you and hearing about the new project you're working on.

Please be patient with us. We promise to work hard to provide you with the best experience possible.

Have a happy and safe 4th!
Tamara

The weather has finally broken and it’s beautiful out, although a bit dry.  Since I’m on vacation and relaxing next to the lake, I thought it only appropriate that we go with quick, easy and delicious for this month’s recipe, plus, perfect dessert for 4th of July festivities.

Ingredients

16 ounce Betty Crocker Angel Food Cake Mix box {make sure to use the 'just add water' variety}

21 ounces Strawberry Pie Filling can

Optional: Cool Whip for Topping

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Add powder cake mix and pie filling to large mixing bowl, and stir together with large spoon or wooden spoon.

Then pour mixture into 9×13 ungreased ceramic baking dish. {Do NOT grease pan}

Bake for for 28 – 33 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

After baking, it is completely normal for your cake to fall in the middle as it cools.

The dump cake will be a dense and delicious treat... perfect topped with whip cream.
